I grew up in Iowa as a farmer’s daughter and traveled with various horse shows. I enrolled in Iowa School for the Deaf at age 5 and grew up there. I love ISD because the bond is close knit as sisters and brothers and I still keep in touch with some of them. I played sports like; basketball, cheerleader, track and involved with some leadership such as JR. NAD. Then I graduated from Iowa School for the Deaf in 1984. I went to Gallaudet University and received a BA in 1990 but I consider myself Class of 89. I joined the sorority and did some community services for many good causes.
I used to live in Washington, DC for 10 years before I moved here in 1995. I used to work for Senator Charles Grassley from Iowa and then transferred to Senator Dianne Feinstein from California whom I learned much about woman’s role in the working world that reflects me as a woman and deaf person. When I worked there I was started at the bottom level as data entry then climbed up the ladder to the Network systems before I moved here.
I now work at University of Washington as Senior Computer Specialist, an expert at changing my various hat roles, depending on my client's needs keeping myself busy. I always love to learn something new and always willing to try new things. I do research on the technology for OS software and the newest hardware that needs to be tested before deployment to University of Washington employees.
I am WSAD Communication Chair – coordinate any kind of communication between WSAD President to the public via website, newsletter, mailing, host the booths at the deaf events, and send e-notification emails. I am grateful to work with a wonderful committee who take care of these projects for WSAD and the general public to retain the good rapport within the deaf community.
I have two daughters and live in Kirkland. We all love to travel, scrapbook, take lot of pictures, hiking, camping, watch movies, and… should I put some more? It’s unlimited of things we like to do for outdoor activities.
