Joan Forshay (1992) '93, G' 94

I was born to a large family of 11 children in Minster, a very small town in Ohio. I am the only Deaf member of my family. I attended St. Rita School for the Deaf, a private Catholic residential school in Cincinnati, Ohio until I graduated. I entered Gallaudet in 1988. I majored in Secondary Education and Mathematics. I tutored Math for several years. I love Math! I graduated in 1993. Immediately after, I began my graduate studies. I was part of the first group that enrolled in the accelerated Deaf Education graduate program at Gallaudet. I finished my graduate studies and received my Masters in Deaf Education within just one year, instead of the traditional two-year program. What a quick finish!

I had many memorable Gally Moments, and the most cherished moment of all is this... I met my future hubby Lance Forshay (1992) of Kansas who is a 4th generation Deaf family. We have been married for over 12 years now. We are currently living in Puyallup with our two children. Matthew (MJ) is ten years old and he's hearing; Samantha (Sami) is eight years old and she's Deaf. I currently homeschool my kids. It's fun to watch them learn and grow!

My favorite quotation:

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:10
